GES DAAC Transitions Completed

The following transition activities have been completed:

The Collection 4 CERES subsetter was brought into production in MODAPS
starting at dataday 55 (February 24, 2006). This was completed ahead of
schedule.

The GES DAAC production of forward processed Collection 4 L1 products
ceased on dataday 55 (February 24, 2006). This was completed ahead of
schedule.

The Collection 4 atmospheres subscriptions were started in MODAPS on
dataday 66 (March 7, 2006). This was completed ahead of schedule.

The code to split the MODAPS L0 archive from 2-hour files to 5-minute
granules was introduced for forward processing and reprocessing intervals
on dataday 66 (March 7, 2006). This was completed ahead of schedule.

New staff members for archive and distribution, L0 ingest, and Tier 1
user support were hired and started work over the interval March 15
through April 1. This was accomplished on schedule.

On April 10 the Collection 5 Aqua CERES and Miami subsetters and certain GES DAAC
subscriptions have been started for forward processing. This was accomplished on schedule.

Version 3 of LAADS was brought into operations on April 10. This was accomplished on schedule. However, only a partial reprojection capability was included and the GeoTIFF format conversion was delayed until Version 4.

In mid-April the MODAPS Production web site was refurbished and was re-named to the MODAPS Services web site.

All Collection 5 GES DAAC subscriptions were transitioned to MODAPS by late-April.

In late-May successful load tests were conducted on LAADS for the average and peak GES DAAC condition.

The Collection 5 CONUS and Europe regions were archived in LAADS starting at the end of May.

The export of browse and metadata to ECHO started in mid-June. The reconciliation capability was added by late-June.

OBC products for MCST were added to the data pool in late-June.

On July 1, the GES DAAC ceased Collection 5 L1B forward production for Aqua and L1 products were exported to the GES DAAC by MODAPS.

A successful 3-day ESDIS load test of the LAADS system was conducted in mid-July.

The GES DAAC Collection 5 Terra subscriptions were added to MODAPS in late July.

On August 1, the GES DAAC ceased Collection 5 L1B forward production for Terra and L1 products were exported to the GES DAAC by MODAPS.

On August 1 MODAPS operations of the 5x5 pixel subsetter began for Collection 5 Terra and Aqua forward processing and for Collection 5 Terra reprocessing.

An announcement of public access to LAADS for Collection 5 atmospheres and L1 products was sent out by MODAPS and the GES DAAC on August 2.
