Initiator | Robert Wolfe |
Abstract | PGE01 5.0.56 and PGE01 v6.0.25. Updated to use Geolocation LUT file that has the long-term trend table extended to cover through to 2017-01-01 |
Problem Statement | The MODIS instruments on the Terra and Aqua satellites have systematic long-term variations in it's orientation relative to the rest of the satellite. A significant part of the total variation is an annual variation that is believed to be due to thermal strains due to seasonal variation in the average amount of sunlight, but there's more to it than that. A look-up table is used to apply time-dependent adjustments to the instrument orientation. In versions 5.0.55 and 6.0.24, those tables extend only up to 2016-01-01, and the adjustment will become increasingly inaccurate after that date. |
Description of Change | Extend the long-term-trend tables to include predicted values through 2017-01-01. |
Products Affected | None. |
Software Affected | PGE01 v5.0.56 and PGE01 v6.0.25 |
Processing String to Receive the Change | Terra and Aqua Forward Processing, NRT |
Downstream Product Effects | PGE01 packets corrupted in this way will be dropped, but the granules containing them will be processed correctly. |
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | 8-day test of C5 Terra and Aqua PGEs up to daily LSR, CMG LSR and 8-day LSR in AS1373, 1374. 8-day test of C6 Terra and Aqua PGEs up to daily LSR, CMG LSR and 8-day LSR in AS1375, 1376.2010-059 |
Justification | The expected variation in the instrument orientation needs to be corrected to get acceptable geolocation accuracy. |
Effective Date for Implementation of Change | Completed. |
Status | Robert Wolfe approved 01/21/2016. Gang Ye approved 2/1/2016. |
