MODAPS PCR 07-017

Date | 2007-10-01 |
Initiator | James Kuyper |
Abstract | Fix to change the L1B RVS validity limits. |
Problem Statement | The L1B program calculates a time-dependent Response Versus Scan angle (RVS) correction factor that depends upon the band and the frame number. These values have in the past been validated by requiring that 0.8 < factor < 1.2. Starting on data day 2007-09-17 at 19:35, the RVS correction factor for band 8 and frame 1353 fell below those validity limits, and we haven't been able to process any Terra data after that date with the old version of PGE02. |
Description of Change | Change the validity limits to 0.4 < factor < 2.4. |
Products Affected | M[O|Y]D021KM, M[O|Y]D02HKM, M[O|Y]D02QKM, M[O|Y]D02OBC, M[O|Y]D021QA |
Software Affected | PGE02 |
Processing String to Receive the Change | Terra Forward, Aqua Forward |
Downstream Product Effects | All downstream software, which includes the overwhelming majority of the MODIS PGEs, are affected by the fact that this bug prevents them from running, and fixing it allows production to continue. There should be no other effects. |
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | |
Justification | MCST Analysts are quite sure that the low values for the RVS correction for band 8 are correct. The original validity check limits were essentially arbitrary, and did not anticipate the fact that some bands would deteriorate far enough to require accepting such low values for the RVS correction. |
