Abstract | PGE117 6.1.8, PGE118 6.1.8, PGE119 6.1.8 Most of the processes for generation of these gap-filled products for C61 are similar to C6 (ref: PCR-19-018, 19-019). The following are the additional improvements for C61: 1. Added support of reading in and processing of the gap-filled daily BRDF/Albedo input (MCD43GFbsasw) product. 2. Enable the 8-day process to exit with FATAL ERROR when the number of daily data days processed, exceeds the standard number of days of 8 (5 or 6 for the last 8-day of the year). 3. Added daily GMAO and annual average air temperature file names to the INPUTPOINTER of dailyMOD16A1 or MOD16A1GF HDF file. 4. Change the scale_factor for "LE_500m" and "PLE_500", from 10000 to 0.01 and increase their units from J/m^2/day to MJ/m^2/day for more reasonable magnitude of the final physical values. 5. Enable the archiving of the daily rolling intermediate files at every "n-day" interval. 6. General debugging and fixing of the code to account for fillvalue in the FparExtraQC from the input gap-filled MxD15A2HGF inputs and other miscellaneous fixes to correct some of the global metadata attributes etc. |
Problem Statement | Generate year-end gap-filled version of MxD16 product suites in the C61 re-processing. |
Description of Change | Updated the C6 version of the gap-filled MxD16 ET/PET product PGEs with the following C61 changes 1. Enable the use of daily gap-filled albedo products for regular and year-end gap-filled production of MxD16 products, to improve the detection of ET/PET parameters over certain frequently cloud filled areas over the tropics. 2. Update the INPUTPOINTER global attribute to reflect the full set of inputs in the daily rolling A1 files, including the ancillary weather and surface temperature climatology inputs. 3. Include more robust check to ensure that the daily and the 8-day processes are run in perfect sequence. 4. General debugging and fixing of the code to account for fillvalue in the FparExtraQC from the input gap-filled MxD15A2HGF inputs and other miscellaneous fixes to correct some of the global metadata attributes etc. |
Products Affected | MxD16A1GF (daily-intermediate), MxD16A2GF (8-day), and MxD16A3GF (annual) products. |
Software Affected | PGE117 6.1.8, PGE118 6.1.8, PGE119 6.1.8 |
Processing String to Receive the Change | Terra and Aqua Forward Processing. Terra and Aqua Reprocessing. |
Downstream Product Effects | None |
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | Series of science tests run processing global 8-day and annual product, in AS 1775, AS 1786 and AS 1792, to confirm and verify all aspects of science code and production rule changes, for these gap-filled products. |
Justification | Year-end gap-filled products were introduced much later in the C6 reprocessing. Gap filled product is the best quality science product compared to the operational product generated in the forward processing that could either have data gap from missing input data due to cloud contamination as in C6 or use the back-up climatology data to process these cloud contaminated retrievals. C61 product quality is further enhanced by the C61 specific changes in the C61 PGE and from use of better quality input data. |
Effective Date for Implementation of Change | PGE117/118/119 (V6.1.8) are to be inducted for C61 re-processing, from the beginning of the Terra mission, immediately following the submission of this PCR, around the first-second week of September. |
