Abstract | PGE23 v6.0.41. Code change to implement the following functional changes: - Apply new narrow-to-broadband coefficients without band 6 if only band 6 is fill value due to non-functional or noisy detectors and the other bands are valid full or magnitude retrievals. - Set the mandatory QA value to "2" if the other bands are all full inversions and to "3" if one or more of the other bands are magnitude inversions. |
Problem Statement | MCD43A1 and MCD43A3 products contained striping artifacts in two broadbands - NIR and shortwave - from bad detectors in band 6 of Aqua. |

Justification | Band 6 non-functional or noisy detectors were interpolated in V005 but left as fill value in V006. The broadband NIR and shortwave albedo that use band 6 for narrow-to-broadband conversion could not be derived even when other bands have good retrievals. The new narrow-to-broadband coefficients without band 6 are applied if only band 6 is fill value. The generated broadband NIR and shortwave albedo with and without band 6 narrow-to-broadband coefficients are very close. No spatial striping artifact could be found using the updated PGE. |
