Abstract | PGE117/117G v6.0.10, PGE118 v6.0.8, PGE119 v6.0.8. The science version of the code developed at the SCF, Montana was ported for operational processing at MODAPS with code change to read and process the input 8-day product LAI-FPAR in near real time, read and use the daily meteorological data from GMAO version 5.12.4, and write required ECS metadata in the output product. Also generate the coarse resolution product for use in QA and browse image product for delivery to DAAC along with the science data product. |
Problem Statement | The MODIS Evapotranspiration 8-day composite (MxD16A2) and annual (MxD16A3) products at MODAPS in the C6 reprocessing and forward processing streams. |
Description of Change | MODAPS ported the science algorithm, developed by the Science Team, used to generate the MODIS Evapotranspiration products (MxD16A2/A3) at NTSG-UMT at the end of every year using the MODIS LAI-FPAR product as input. The following changes were implemented to enable operational processing of these products at MODAPS so the products are generated with 1-2 days of latency as opposed to generating at the end of the year. 1. Divide the logical workflow of the science code into 4 parts generating a suite of products - MxD16A0 (initialization), MxD16A1 (daily processing), MxD16A2 (8-day composite) and MxD16A3 (annual) 2. Since no gap filling can be done in near real time processing, take out all temporal interpolation of bad/missing MOD15A2 LAI/FPAR values and fill all such areas with fill value commensurate land cover type 16 or barren land 3. Changes to accept different ancillaries (daily meteorological data from GMAO version 5.12.4) 4. Update to output all required metadata in the output products 5. Generate the coarse resolution product and browse imagery product |
Products Affected | MxD16A2, MxD16A3 |
Software Affected | PGE117/117G v6.0.10, PGE118 v6.0.8, PGE119 v6.0.8 |
Processing String to Receive the Change | Terra and Aqua Forward Processing. Terra and Aqua Reprocessing |
Downstream Product Effects | None. |
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | Run 2-year global test of year 2003 and 2008 verifying the implementation and performance of the algorithm and science product. |
Justification | Though the product version produced at MODAPS in near real time with 1-2 days of latency is not expected to be of the same high quality as the product generated by the year-end processing at NTSG-UMT, the product is expected to meet the requirements of near real time users. |
