Abstract | PGE117 v6.0.1; PGE118 v6.0.1; PGE119 v6.0.1 Ported the science version of the code for operational production of the product at MODAPS with following changes Generate 500m resolution product using 500m resolution input. Use GMAO for daily meteorological data. Change all climate variable inputs from binary to HDF format. Use the C6 DEM replacing the tiled SRTM data. Use C51 multi-year land cover product MCDLCHKM in place of the C4 1km resolution land cover. Replace the climatology annual average temperature by climatological values based on last 3 years. |
Problem Statement | Generate the Evapotranspiration 8-day and annual products (MxD16A2, MxD16A3) in C6 reprocessing. |
Description of Change | Adopt the science processing algorithm originally developed by the SCF at NTSG Montana for operational processing of the product at MODAPS. Update the process to generate 500m resolution product using 500m resolution input. To be consistent with MOD17 product replace NCEP with GMAO for daily meteorological data. Change all climate variable inputs from binary to HDF format. For consistency and accuracy use the C6 DEM replacing the tiled SRTM data. Replace the land cover file C4 MOD12Q1 with C51 multi-year land cover product MCDLCHKM. Replace the climatology annual average temperature by climatological values based on last 3 years. |
Products Affected | MOD16A2, MOD16A3, MYD16A2, MYD16A3 |
Software Affected | PGE117 v6.0.1; PGE118 v6.0.1; PGE119 v6.0.1 |
Processing String to Receive the Change | Terra Reprocessing, Aqua Reprocessing |
Downstream Product Effects | None. |
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | Generate global product from two 16-day periods of data from both satellites. Qualitative and quantitative assessment performed by comparing to the product from the SCF.2010-059 |
Justification | Product being generated operationally for the first time at MODAPS for use by real time users. The process will use the same ancillaries and inputs as MOD17 there by providing users with consistent set of the twin products - MOD16/MOD17, evapotranspiration and GPP. An improved, gap filled product may be generated in the following year by the SCF at their computing facility which in turn could be delivered to MODAPS for distribution as a different collection. |
