Abstract | Updated PGE36/37 read in the input GMAO in GEOS format GEOS 5.2 and GEOS format 5.9.1 and scale the data based on the temporal resolution. |
Problem Statement | The PGE36/37 needed to use input GMAO in format GEOS-5.2 starting May 2012 that used 3-hour assimilation and format GEOS 5.9.1 starting June 2013 that used 1-hour assimilation of daily meteorological data. |
Description of Change | Update PGE36/37 to read in the input GMAO in GEOS format GEOS 5.2 and GEOS format 5.9.1 and scale the data based on the temporal resolution. |

Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing | Run 16-day global test for year 2013-105 using GEOS 5.2 and GEOS 5.9.1 to facilitate comparison of the product from the two formats of input GMAO2010-059 |
Justification | Input meteorological data is a required input to generate the GPP/PSNnet product. Goddard DAAC, the provider of this input, started producing the GMAO in GEOS 5.2 format with 3-hour assimilation of daily meteorological data and then switched to format 5.9.1 starting June 2, 2013 with 1-hour assimilation of data daily data. Earlier version of PGE36 assumed 1-hour assimilation of daily observation in GEOS 5.2 and hence products from May 2012 had data quality issue. The PGE needed to be updated to recognize the temporal resolution of the daily meteorological data so the observations can be scaled properly for use in the generation of daily/8-day and yearly GPP. This change is required to correct for the proper temporal resolution of input meteorological data without which the retrieved GPP would be incorrect. |
