Abstract Linux certification of PGE46 and PGE67; internal code for computing indices.
Problem Statement Up to now, previous versions of PGEs 46 (Daily Snow Cover, CMG) and 67 (8-DaySnow Cover, CMG) have relied on binary index files to provide the necessarygeolocation data required for processing. Due to the large number of binary index files and their size, the requirement for disk storage space was about 10 GB on any platform where PGEs 46 and 67 could run. Having many clones of the same data set is wasteful of space and an operational burden.
Description of Change The binary index files were replaced with internal software code. In particular, the tile indices needed for geolocation information were directly calculated from code and rewritten to improve efficiency. The internal software performs as efficiently as the binary index files with the added bonus that there is no 10 GB requirement for disk space of earlier versions.
Products Affected Level 3 Daily Snow Cover CMG (M[O|Y]D10C1) and Level 3 8-Day Snow Cover CMG (M[O|Y]D10C2)
Software Affected PGE46, PGE67
Processing String to Receive the Change Terra Forward, Terra Reprocessing, Aqua Forward, Aqua Reprocessing
Downstream Product Effects None.
Data Granules to be Used for Science Testing The test plan covers a consecutive 16-day period from 26 Feb to 13 March 2007. This was a good period for snow cover in Northern Hemisphere.
Justification The processing performance of PGEs 47 and 67 remains as effective as it was prior to change, and the static storage space released by PGEs 47 and 67 can now be reclaimed for other activities.
Effective Date for Implementation of Change
Status Science test completed; results evaluated by LDOPE and the PI. SadashivaDevadiga approved for Land, Vincent Salomonsom approved on 02/05/08.
