| Abstract | PGE69 v6.1.10 and PGE56 v6.1.10 -- Updated the template version to v620. Daily histograms were added through template changes. |
| Problem Statement | The Cloud Optical Properties group found that some additional histograms were necessary to aid in Scientific Research and Cloud Studies. These additions provide "data and analysis symmetry" to the available histograms so that all the various flavors of the cloud retrieval algorithms as well as cloud phases and cloud types can be properly compared and studied. The particular 1-D histograms needed are outlined below. |
| Description of Change | The Cloud Optical Properties group added ten 1-D Histogram SDS's to the Tile (08_TL) and Daily (08_D3) products. It should be noted that these will NOT be added to the Eight Day (08_E3) or Monthly (08_M3) products. The 10 new 1-D Histograms are: Cloud_Effective_Radius_PCL_Liquid_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Effective_Radius_PCL_Ice_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_16_Liquid_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_16_Ice_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_16_PCL_Liquid_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_16_PCL_Ice_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_37_Liquid_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_37_Ice_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_37_PCL_Liquid_Histogram_Counts Cloud_Optical_Thickness_37_PCL_Ice_Histogram_Counts (The key to the above SDS names: PCL=Partly Cloudy retrieval; 16= 1.6 micron retrieval; 37=3.7 micron retrieval; Liquid=Liquid Water Clouds; Ice=Ice Clouds) |

| Justification | The additional SDS's provide symmetry to the available histograms within the L3 Daily (08_D3) Cloud Optical Properties portion of the file so that all the various flavors of the cloud retrieval algorithms as well as cloud phases and cloud types can be properly compared and studied. |
| Effective Date for Implementation of Change | Forward Processing: Required for all Terra and Aqua Collection 6 (C6) Level-3 (L3) Tile (08_TL) and Daily (08_D3), which corresponds to PGE69 (TL) and PGE 56 (D3). Re-Processing: A re-processing is requested for all Terra and Aqua Collection 6 (C6) Level-3 (L3) Tile (08_TL) and Daily (08_D3) starting at data date 2016 245 (September 1, 2016) in order to provide a "clean break" date on a monthly boundary for this enhanced format Tile (08_TL) and Daily (08_D3) product - as well as easier/clearer communication of this change to users. Operations should note that updated Tile (TL) HDF products must be used as input to the matching updated Daily (D3) HDF products - otherwise PGE56 (the Daily PGE) will fail. (Note that no change or rerun of the multiday L3 (08_E3 (PGE70) or 08_M3 (PGE57)) is needed. This change to the Tile and Daily Products outlined in this PCR will have no impact on the Eight Day and Monthly Products - we are simply adding some new SDS's to the Tile and Daily products, which will not propagate to the downstream multiday products) |
