| Abstract | Delivery of Collection 5 cloud retrieval. |
| Problem Statement | The cloud retrieval Collection 5 delivery is a major update to the Collection 4 algorithm. It includes improvements to the existing Collection 4 code, development of new capabilities and SDSs, and a re-write of all Collection 4 science code in fortran 90. |
| Description of Change | Major Collection 5 changes: (1) General code improvements: ice cloud library, atmospheric corrections,land surface albedo maps, addition of new snow/ice surface albedo maps, thermodynamic phase thresholds, addition of a clear-sky restoral module for better discrimination of glint, heavy dust/aerosols. (2) New SDSs: pixel-level retrieval uncertainty, 1.6-2.1 µm retrieval over snow/ice and ocean surfaces, multilayer cloud flag, retrieval processing phase (also in QA as in previous collections). |
